Udupi, Jun 7: The emblem for the first-ever all-India Yakshagana Sahitya Sammelan to be held here from Friday June 8 to Sunday June 10 was released.
Unveiling the emblem, Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura informed that Sammelan will be presided over by senior Yakshagana artiste Malpe Ramadasa Samaga.
There will be a procession led by Samaga prior to the inauguration of the Sammelan, Kalkura said.
The Sammelan will be inaugurated by minister for small savings and information technology Ramachandra Gowda while state Janapada and Yakshgana Academy chairman Keremane Shambhu Hegde will preside over the inaugural ceremony.
BJP chief secretary C T Ravi and Karnataka Bank chairman K Anantakrishna will be the chief guests for the occasion.
On the same day there will be lectures by Yakshagana experts on various topics. The seminar will be presided over by Janapada scholar and writer Prof Amrita Someshwar.
There will also be performances on five different forms of Yakshagana including one by children.
Yakshagana performances will be held on June 9, presided over by Dr Y Chandrashekar Shetty. Former chief minister Veerappa Moily will preside over the stage programme to be held on the same evening, while Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty, Kageri MLA Vishweshwar Hegde and district panchayat member K Sunder Salian will be the chief guests.
‘Yakshagana Layavinyasa’ will be held on June 10 which will be inaugurated by district in-charge minister V S Acharya. The programme will be presided over by Hiriyadkya Gopal Rao.
The valedictory will be held on the same evening in which as many as ten Yakshagana artistes will be felicitated on June 10. MP Sadanand Gowda will preside while Kannada Development Board president Dr Siddalingaiah will deliver the valedictory address.
Among those present at the press meet were state Samskritika Kala Pratishtana president S N Panjaje, Krishnapur Math diwan Sridhar Bhat and others.
