Mangaluru, Aug 8: National conference on faculty development program and 'Emerging trends in mechanical engineering' a two day seminar was inaugurated here at St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru on August 7.

Speaking on the occasion chief guest Narendranath S, professor, department of mechanical engineering NITK, Surathkal quoted a famous quote by JRD Tata 'If you want to walk fast walk alone, if you want to walk far walk together' and said, "Today the young generation has a habit of walking fast. By doing so they get tired in a day or two. Walking together will give more knowledge and help one to go far. There needs to be a goal in order to achieve what one would want to achieve in 2 years down the line. I see students in the campus plugging their earphones and running fast this way and that. By doing so they will be busy in themselves and at the end of the day achieve nothing. I suggest all students write down their goal in a place where they can see it everyday. Just writing will not help. You need to work hard to achieve that goal. The younger generation commits to unnecessary things instead young brains should commit toward their goals and work on them. Do not be satisfied with what you have achieved. Try achieving more and more heights. Think on the lines quoted by JRD Tata. I wish you all the best in this national conference."

Fr Joseph Lobo director, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru said, "We need to stick to one model. Whether it be our spiritual life, social or family life. But what we see today is change. People want change. we call things which do not change outdated. We do not want to buy them. If you want to improve or specialize then you need to have a goal. People want the best things and the best people. Getting the best things and the best people is not easy. To get the best things you need to pay a price. Emerging trend, what is trend the change. We might be there or might not be but our idea will be worth trying. Let us walk far together. I wish all of you success in this 2 day seminar."

Dr Rio D'Ssouza vice principal, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru said, "I like the theme of this seminar E-time. In the modern world things are getting smaller and changing to electronic. Our college wants to walk far and walk together. Discipline has been the main aim. We believe discipline is the corner stone of our character. What is special about our institution is our director and administrators live within the campus 24x7. We are doing well in many of the ratings. We are happy that in the CET our college seats get filled fast. I wish great success to this two day seminar."

Dr Joseph Gonsalves principal, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru in his presidential address said, "Today the world has become very small because of the wide connectivity. Too much of technological development is affecting our environment. We need to think of producing energy which has less effect on our environment. We have solar energy which has less impact on the environment. Mechanical engineers need to think not only about solar energy but tidal energy, wind energy and other forms of energies. Scope for future research is more. Now it is the need of the hour to set a goal and work on it."

Dr Sudheer M, HOD welcomed the gathering while Dr Raju K, organizing secretary thanked the gathering.

Fr Rohith D'costa asst director, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru was the other dignitary on the dais.
