Mumbai, August 9 (Agencies): Radhe Maa, an accused in a dowry harassment case, will be summoned for questioning next week, the Mumbai Police said on Saturday. In more trouble for the self-proclaimed spiritual leader, an advocate in Bhopal lodged a complaint against her for hurting religious sentiments.
The Mumbai-based 50-year-old has become a social media rage after a video clip emerged of her dancing to a Bollywood tune and still images showed her lounging on a sofa in a red miniskirt and knee-high boots. Radhe Maa appears before her legions of devotees in glittering red saris, heavy jewellery and make-up with a trishul, or trident, in her hand.
Mumbai Police are investigating a complaint by a woman that Radhe Maa instigated her husband and in-laws to harass her for dowry. On Saturday, she was contacted by the Aurangabad police after they came to know of her presence in their area.
“We confirmed that it was her and then we informed the Mumbai police about it. When asked if she should be formally detained, they said the process of gathering evidence was underway. So we didn’t detain her,” said an officer of the Aurangabad crime branch.
“We know she is in Aurangabad. There is no actionable evidence against her at the moment but she will be called for questioning next week,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, deputy commissioner and Mumbai police spokesperson. The case is being investigated by the Kandivli police.
An advocate in Bhopal, meanwhile, lodged a complaint against the 50-year-old Radhe Maa accusing her of insulting the word ‘Maa’. The complainant also alleged that she had links to the real estate mafia. “She is spreading obscenity and hurting religious sentiments of many religious people like me. A case should be registered against her under the Indian Penal Code,” advocate RK Pandey said.
