Over 62,000 affected in Philippines flood


Manila, Aug 9 (IANS): More than 62,000 people have been affected in the Philippines due to flooding and heavy rainfall since last week, authorities said.

The country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said flooding and flashfloods have been reported in several towns in Bohol, Bukidnon and Maguindanao provinces, Xinhua news agency reported.

Nearly 900 were evacuated to safer place on Saturday. Nine people have so far died due to flashfloods.

The damage to agriculture and infrastructure sectors has been pegged at $118,995.
