Call drops, net neutrality focus areas for new TRAI chief

New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS): Resolving call drops issue, expediting work on net neutrality and spectrum pricing are the few key issues that the Indian telecom regulator's new chairman R.S. Sharma will be focusing on.

Sharma, wjo was earlier secretary, Information Technology, in the central government, took charge as chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Monday. The post was lying vacant since May 14.

"Some of the key issues that I have been able to figure out as secretary, DeitY (department of electronics and IT), member of Telecom Commission and a common man are quality of service, the need to discuss net neutrality and expediting digitisation of broadcast services. All this will be done while keeping in mind interest of all stakeholders," he told reporters here.

Sharma, a 1978-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, succeeds Rahul Khullar.

He added that he will give priority to ensure transparent play in the telecom sector.
