Puttur, Aug 11: Dakshina Kannada district deputy director of public instruction has suspended Harish, a teacher of government high school at Saralikatte, Uppinangady. Harish has been accused of sexually harassing a girl student of the school during the period the students were taken for study tour.

During December last, the students had undertaken trip to Mysuru. The girl student had said in her complaint filed in Uppinangady station that she had been sexually harassed by the said teacher during this period. A case under different provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act had been registered there.

It is said that the girl had complained against the misbehaviour of the said teacher to the headmaster on her return from the trip. The headmaster had advised the teacher to mend his ways. The teacher, who did not take this kindly, used to mentally harass the girl student concerned during his classes, it is said, which incensed the student.

In the backdrop of the registration of said case against the teacher in question, block coordinator visited the school on August 7, and submitted a report to the DDPI. On the basis of this report, DDPI, Walter D'Mello, issued orders of suspension.
