Udupi, Aug 11: The Heroor Nagarika Horata Samiti staged a massive protest regarding installation of fish processing unit in residential area of Herur village in front of DC office Rajathadri, here on Monday August 10.

Sunil Suda, president of Horata Samiti said, "M K Bhojaraju has sought a no objection certificate for land conversion of 1.70 acres from the Chantar panchayat. He has planned to construct a fish processing unit on that land, but villagers of Heroor have opposed its installation thinking about future consequences.

Sunil alleged that Chantar panchayat PDO Suresh, issued a land conversion certificate for non-residential purpose on March 12. The previous Tahsildar Madhukar Nayak issued a commercially converted certificate.

Heroor is a densely populated area of 3000 residents and there is a river flowing near the land. If the unit starts here then the entire village atmosphere will get polluted due its dirty water or polluted air. The land is situated in the midst of agricultural land. A vented dam has been constructed for the convenience of irrigation to farmers.

The Horata Samiti members and villagers submitted a memorandum to district commissioner for the cancellation of land conversion certificate.

Not only will heroor face consequences of pollution but also Uppoor, Baikady and all the places that come on both sides of the river. The stench of fish meals is unbearable and the same can be felt at Malpe too. This is clearly not an idea that should be supported by the authorities. Shame on such people who make others lives hell for money. People of heroor have maintained the Bail(farmland) all these years along with the river. The effluents from such a factory would make the river unsuitable to see even. Waste water will spoil the river and the smell will drive away people from our beautiful little village and around it. Authorities concerned, please do think before approving such stuff. Anyways Heroor is united enough to stop such activities and that will just be inviting a great deal of trouble.
