MLC draws attention to sale of drugs to college youth

Mangaluru, Aug 12: MLC Ivan D'Souza recently drew the attention of home minister in the Vidhana Parishad regarding rampant sale of drugs to college students in college campuses. As young boys and girls are getting addicted to dangerous drugs, he urged the home minister to form a special team to identify and arrest drug dealers and put them in prison.

The home minister said that 682 cases under NDPS have booked in the state in the last two years between May 2013 and May 2015.

194 cases are being investigated in court. Suspects have been sentenced in 6 cases and 2 cases have been dismissed, he said.

Officials of the rank of police inspector and other policemen will be travelling in Dakshina Kannada district limits forming special squads and will be taking action against the suspects, said the minister.

MLC Ivan D'Souza has urged the home minister to arrest drug traffickers inside and outside the college campuses and to take strict measures to ensure that the students stay away from drugs and drug
traffickers.
