Turkish footballer Topal survives attack by gunmen

Istanbul, Aug 12 (IANS): Turkish footballer Mehmet Topal survived an attack by unidentified assailants while driving his car in Istanbul, media reports said.

Topal, who plays for Turkish club Fenerbahce, was attacked on Tuesday.

The assailants apparently pulled up alongside the car of the 29-year-old Turkish player and opened fire two or three times, reports Efe.

The shooters got away but Turkish police launched a search to track them down after Topal filed a complaint, reports said.

A Fenerbahce bus was targeted in an armed attack in the Turkish city of Trabzon on April 5 when the team was heading to the airport after a game against Turkish side Rizespor.
