Government to create NDRF academy at Nagpur

New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS): The government will create an integrated National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) academy at Nagpur by merging the existing National Fire Service College and National Civil Defence College, Nagpur.

This would help provide specialised training to NDRF personnel in a dedicated manner and to ensure synergy in providing training to fire service, civil defence and NDRF personnel, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju informed the Rajya Sabha.

As and when a disaster occurs in the country, aircraft are requisitioned from the ministry of defence on need basis and made available for airlifting NDRF personnel to the disaster site and for undertaking rescue operations, he said in a written reply.
