New Amul chairman elected


New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS): Jethabhai P. Patel, chairman of the Sabarkantha District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, was Wednesday unanimously elected as the chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd (GCMMF) or Amul.

"It is a matter of great honour to lead an institution like the federation (GCMMF) which was founded by V. Kurien," said Patel in a statement on Wednesday.

The legacy of unanimously electing GCMMF chairmen has been upheld in the latest election as well.

"I will endeavor to ensure that the federation deploys highest quality of ethical and value based management to strengthen the institution and achieve the growth plans," added Patel.

With a sales turnover of Rs.21,000 crore, GCMMF is India's largest food products marketing organization. Its member unions procure 160 lakh litres of milk everyday from 36 lakh milk producers in 18,000 villages of Gujarat, the statement added.

GCMMF has set a target of handling and marketing 300 lakh litre of milk a day by 2020 and touch a turnover of Rs.50,000 crore, the statement said.

GCMMF markets a wide range of milk and milk products via Amul and Sagar brands.
