Belthangady, Aug 13: A recently married lady killed herself by jumping into a pond late afternoon on Tuesday August 11. Her body was recovered on Wednesday.

Jyoti (27), wife of Keshava Poojary, who runs a petty shop at Naravi near here, chose to end her life this way.

On Tuesday, Keshava Poojary had come home for lunch in the afternoon, and everything seemed normal. After he returned to his shop, his sister visited his home at 3.30 pm, but found that Jyoti was not there. She then got in touch with Keshava, after which a search was launched with the help of relatives, which went in vain.

The search operation was resumed the next day. During search in the pond located a little away from the house, Jyoti's body was found at around 3.30 pm on Wednesday. Jyoti, who was from Nallur in Bajagoly, had been married off to Keshava Poojary about four months back./

It is gathered that Jyoti suffered from health complications, and it is felt that she would have chosen to commit suicide because of this reason. Her body was taken to a hospital in Deralakatte Mangaluru for postmortem.

A report was filed in Venoor police station about this development. Beltangady police circle inspector, Lingappa Poojary, Venoor poilce inspector, Vinayaka Billava, tahsildar, Putta Shetty, taluk APMC president, P Dharanendra Kumar, and several others visited the spot.
