Sindhu beats Olympic champ Xuerui in badminton Worlds


Jakarta, Aug 13 (IANS): Indian badminton sensation P.V. Sindhu defied all odds to defeat reigning Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China and advance to the women's singles quarterfinals of the World Championships here on Thursday.

Eleventh seed Sindhu took 50 minutes to move past the Chinese third seed 21-17, 14-21, 21-17 in the third round at the 9,000-seater Istora Senayan.

The 20-year-old is the only Indian to have to won two bronze medals at the World meet.
