Mangaluru, Aug 14: Ajit Shetty (26) from Pakshikere near Haleangady was arrested by Bajpe police and produced in the court on Thursday August 13. He has been accused of impregnating a lady from Yekkar near Bajpe after convincing her to enter into sexual relationship with him by extending promise of marriage.

It is said that the accused approached the lady when she was attending college. He not only promised to marry her, but also used to visit her often at her home. The love affair lasted for about five years. In the recent past, Ajit expressed suspicion about the character of the lady after finding that she had become pregnant, it is said. He claimed time and again that he was not responsible for this pregnancy, before going missing all of a sudden.

The family of the lady then went to Ajit's home and mooted the proposal of marriage between the two. It is said that Ajit's family was not willing to commit anything. Thereafter, the lady gave birth to a male baby in a private hospital at Moodbidri.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the lady in Bajpe police station, the youth was taken into custody from Pakshikere and produced in court.
