Mangalore, Jun 13: Konkani Prachar Sanchalan has embarked on a campaign for introducing Konkani in schools. Speaking to media persons, on Wednesday, Jun.13, Roy Castelino, president of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan told that, government of Karnataka has granted permission to teach Konkani from VI std to SSLC as optional language.
Accordingly, Sanchalan has organized a campaign, with an objective of popularizing Konkani through creating awareness, among the teachers, administrators and parents, to allow the students to study Konkani as third language. The members of the Sanchalan would visit as many schools from June 13 to June15, 2007 in the district, he informed.
Moreover, Konkani Sahitya Academy, has organized training for Konkani teachers, on Saturday, June16, he added.
Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto, Konkani Writers' Forum president Dr Edward Nazareth, Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario, Irene Rebello, academy member Vitori Karkal, Stany Alvares, Neeta Rebello and Naveen Lobo were present at the press meeting.
