Mangalore, Jun 15: There have been a few cases recently in the city in which some foreigners approached citizens with high-sounding and lucrative-looking 'business proposals', solely with an intention of making the gullible public to part with huge sums of money. Many have walked into this trap and now regretting their step.

District Congress Committee spokesperson M G Hegde addressed a media meet on Thursday June 14 to caution the citizens to beware of such conment. Hegde, corporator Yogish Shetty, district general Secretary of the Seva Dal wing of the Janata Dal (Secular) Deepu, joined by a group of citizens, have urged district superintendent of police B Dayananda to keep track of the foreigners who come to the city with dubious motives and stay here.

Addressing the mediapersons Hegde said that some of these foreigners attempt to cheat the local people and even threaten them. He said two South African nationals apparently established a contact with Ratnakar Suvarna, a local businessman, and laid out plans set up a hotel. Ratnakar suspected the bona fides of these two and contacted corporator Yogish Shetty who in turn requested an investigation on them by Hegde.

Hegde alleged that there were many cases of foreigners who come on visit visas and then approach for the local people with business proposals, without seeking permission from the authorities concerned. Due to craving for quick money some locals fall into the pit. However, Ratnakar Suvarna was cautious enough to convey his suspicions to the police in the jurisdiction.
