Mangaluru, Aug 18: A team of police personnel from Bajpe station succeeded in arresting a person, who has been one of the accused in a murder attempt case that happened near the bus shelter near Sooralpady Jumma Masjid at Badagulipady in Bajpe about 29 years ago. The arrest was affected on Monday July 17.

The arrested accused is Abdul Hameed, a resident of Kaikamba in Paduperara village.

As per the case, accused, Abdul Khader, Abdul Rahiman, Gandhi alias Muhammed Abul Rahiman alias Unhi alias Hasanabba, S M Basheer, Hameed alias Ammi, and Abdul Hameed had attacked P K Abdul Khader and S Abdul Khader with lethal weapons like sickles and cudgels. The murder attempt was made when these two had come to offer prayers at the mosque.

A murder attempt complaint was lodged in Bajpe station. One of the accused, Abdul Hameed, evaded arrest and did not attend court hearings even after several warrants were issued for his arrest. As the accused remained elusive for many years, warrant had been issued under Long Pending Cases in 2003, but Hameed could not be traced.

After getting information about the presence of the accused, Bajpe police rushed to Kaikamba and took the accused into custody. On being produced in court, Hameed was remanded to judicial custody.

The operation was conducted by Bajpe police inspector, T D Nagaraj and sub-inspector, Ramesh Hanapura, under the guidance of police; commissioner, S Murugan, deputy commissioner, K M Shantaraju and assistant police commissioner, Madan Gaonkar.
