Pakistan continues ceasefire violations

Jammu, Aug 19 (IANS): The Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing along the international border in Mendhar and Hamirpur sectors of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, an official said here on Wednesday.

"Pakistan firing started at 2.30 p.m. and is still on. Our troopers are retaliating effectively," defence ministry spokesman Lt. Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS here.

The Pakistanis are using 120mm, 62 mm and 82 mm mortar shells, he added.

The Pakistanis violated the 2003 ceasefire at two places in Balakote sector in Poonch district on Tuesday night also.

"After our troops retaliated, the Pakistani firing stopped at 10 p.m.," he said, adding there was another round of firing for half an hour.
