Security tightened in Punjab & Haryana HC complex after threat

Chandigarh, Aug 19 (IANS): Security around the Punjab and Haryana High Court complex was on Wednesday placed on high alert following an anonymous letter which threatened that blasts would take place there on August 21.

The threat letter was sent to the Punjab Press Club in Jalandhar on Tuesday, police said.

The letter, in Punjabi language, threatened that blasts would be carried out in the court complex -- in Chandigarh's high-security Sector 1 -- on August 21 and that judges would be killed.

Police officials in Chandigarh held a meeting with high court officials on Wednesday and decided to beef up security around the court complex.

"We have put security on high alert," a Chandigarh Police official told IANS.
