Journalists protest growing attacks on media persons

Lucknow, Aug 19 (IANS): Journalists here will on Thursday work with black arm bands to protest growing cases of violence against scribes, a spokesman of an umbrella group of media persons said on Wednesday.

Journalists, at a meeting at the Vidhan Sabha press room, condemned the recent attack on journalists of reputed English and Hindi dailies by a corporator and his henchmen.

They demanded that the National Security Act (NSA) be invoked against the assailants.

It was also decided that journalists covering the state assembly's monsoon session would be wearing black bands on Thursday.

An action committee has also been formed to keep a tab on the development of the probe ordered by the state government in the matter.

The journalists, from electronic and print media, met the principal secretary (home) and submitted a memorandum on the issue. The official assured them of initiating stern action against the guilty.
