Germany's benchmark DAX index slumps


Frankfurt, Aug 20 (IANS): The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange slumped by more than 200 points and closed below 11,000 points.

The falling prices of raw materials and the economic situations in Asia were mainly factors behind the slump on Wednesday, according local analysts.

The blue-chip index lost 233.77 points, or 2.14 percent and closed at 10,682.15 points, Xinhua reported.

All the 30 DAX member shares suffered losses. LANXESS AG, a specialty chemicals company, dropped by 5.61 percent. Infineon Technologies AG, a semi-conductor company, lost 3.44 percent. ThyssenKrupp AG plunged by 3.07 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG slipped by 2.99 percent. Continental AG went down by 2.98 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.49 billion euros (around $3.86 billion). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 329.81 million euros (around $364.66 million).
