Mangalore, Jun 16: Writer Narendra Rai Derla released “Nisarga”, a collection of essays on Nature written by Mangalore University's assistant librarian M C Jayappa, at a function held at Patrika Bhavan at Lady Hill here in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Derla felt that human beings were somehow losing touch with the soil and hence ought to think about it seriously.
According to him expressions of nature in Kannada were of two types, viz., “The Kuvempu Model” and another the “Poornachandra Tejaswi Model”. Poet Kuvempu looked at nature via the elements such as a flower or cuckoo, as it was the base of spirituality for him, while for Poornachandra his son, nature was an object of wonder.
Dr Mahalinga Bhat, St Aloysius College Kannada faculty, while speaking on the said book, stated that people thinking seriously on nature were now fast becoming a minority. He hoped that authors like Jayappa become part of the ‘Bhagya Chakra’ of the world of words, which would particularly throw light on environmental crisis.
Also present on the occasion were author Jayappa and Prakashchandra Shishila.
