Youth ends barefoot pledge after meeting Modi

Jaipur, Aug 21 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Balwant Kumawat, a youth from Rajasthan's Bhilwara, who on Friday ended his pledge taken two years back to walk barefoot till he meets Modi as PM.

A PMO press release said that Kumawat had expressed a keen desire that Modi becomes prime minister.

"Two years ago, he had even taken a pledge not to wear footwear until he meets 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi'. He was barefoot continuously since then," the release said. It said that Kumawat resumed wearing footwear after his meeting with Modi.

"The prime minister advised Kumawat to now devote his energies to a positive cause for nation-building. He also urged Kumawat not to take a pledge which would cause physical discomfort," the release said.

Modi was in Jaipur to address Forum for India Pacific Island Countries (FIPIC) Summit.
