Udupi, Aug 22: Members of a Hindu organization swooped on a spot at Harkady village near Shriyara, Brahmavar on the night of August 20 and rescued some cattle which were being readied for being transported to a slaughterhouse in Kerala. Two persons accused of indulging in activity were handed over to police.

It is said that Hiriyanna Shetty, Chandra Shetty and Bhaskar Shetty from Harkady had brought a cow and four calves together in a thicket near a school at Harkady. All these animals were tied together in a violent manner. Members of a local Hindu organization, including Chandra Acharya and his friends, who came to know about the incident, went to the spot for inspection.

On seeing the activists, the accused tried to flee. Out of three persons on the spot, Bhaskar Shetty succeeded in running away, it is said. Hiriyanna Shetty and Chandra Shetty admitted that the cattle were meant for being sold to a slaughterhouse, and they also showed the spot where the animals had been kept. Chandra Acharya then contacted Kota police station, and rescued the cattle in the presence of police personnel.

In the meanwhile, Chandra Shetty's wife, Babi Shedthi, filed a counter complaint in Kota police station, claiming that Chandra Acharya and about 15 others who claimed themselves to be members of Bajrang Dal illegally entered the courtyard of their home when her husband, Chandra Shetty from Salimakki in Harkady, was talking to his neighbour, Hiriyanna Shetty. The intruders assaulted both Chandra Shetty and Hiriyanna Shetty, posed them life threats, and forcibly took them away in a vehicle, she claimed in her complaint.
