Modi wants to normalise ties on his own terms: Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 22 (IANS): Pakistan's National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz on Saturday said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to normalise ties with Pakistan on his own terms.

"Jab se Modi sahab aaye hain tab se unki yeh policy hai ki woh Pakistan se rishte normalise karna chahte hain per yeh woh apne terms per karna chahte hain (since Modi has come to power he wants dialogue on his terms)," Aziz said at press conference here.

He said India would soon realise that talks without Kashmir was "not possible for us".

The Pakistan high commission in Delhi has invited Jammu and Kashmir separatist leaders to hold deliberations with Aziz ahead of the NSA talks. India has adviced against it.

"In fact it was India which introduced a new condition through its advice that Pakistan should not meet Hurriyat leaders, thus assuming the right to determine the guest list for the high commissioner's reception," he said.

Aziz is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on August 24 in Delhi.

Still ready to go to Delhi for talks: Sartaj Aziz

Pakistan's National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz said here on Saturday he is still prepared to go to New Delhi for talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval and it will be regretful if the talks were cancelled on "flimsy grounds".

"I am still ready to go to New Delhi to hold (NSA) talks without any preconditions," Aziz told the media here as uncertainty loomed over the talks between India and Pakistan's National Security Advisers in New Delhi.

The Pakistan high commission has invited Jammu and Kashmir separatist leaders to hold deliberations with Aziz ahead of the NSA talks. India has adviced against it.

He said Kashmir would still be on the agenda of talks. "India seems to be ignoring the most important matter that is the bone of contention in the relations between the two countries. We stand by it and would like to talk on it with the Indian counterpart if and when we meet," he said.

To a query, Aziz said: "No serious talks with India are possible without discussion on the core issue of Kashmir."

Aziz said the Pakistan high commission had invited separatist leaders to enable him to meet a cross-section of leaders. India has said this was unacceptable.

"Is it conceivable that a country like India will cancel the talks on such flimsy grounds?" he asked. He saidit would be regretful if cancellation happens.

Just a couple of hours before Aziz spoke in Islamabad, Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Shah was detained in New Delhi when he flew in from Srinagar.

Referring to Shah's detention, Aziz said he was disturbed by this and that it violated Shah's fundamental rights.

Aziz said the purpose of the NSA talks was to achieve tranquility between the two countries.

He said they have prepared three dossiers on alleged activities of India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) on Pakistani soil.

Aziz said he would carry the dossiers and hoped he gets a chance to hand over them to his Indian counterpart Doval, whom he is scheduled to meet on August 24.

"If I don't get an opportunity to hand over the dossiers to Doval in New Delhi, I hope to give it to him in New York next month if he comes with (Indian Prime Minister Narendra) Modi," he said, adding that he would hand them over to the UN Secretary General.

Aziz said the Indian prime minister wants to normalise ties on his own terms.

"Cancellation of the talks is not confirmed from our side...we are ready to go for the talks as scheduled...," he said.

Do not forget the fact that India has fought two wars with Pakistan and won it under congress government. What we need is act than speeches. Spending time in big talks and zero work no use, Let us see how long speeches will continue . A constructive dialogue is required for the time being to stop cross border violations to stop untold miseries of the people living in that area.

It is because of the Congress government in India that Pakistan lost the complete territory of 'EAST PAKISTAN' which India took way and liberated it from Pakistan to create 'BANGLADESH'. That was the biggest kick for Pakistan. Thanks to the Congress government under the former PM late Indira Gandhi's leadership.

Reason why we don't need to talk about kashmir is because there is nothing to talk about it. It's a part of india. Remember, they want to talk about the kashmir that's under india's control, they are not talking about pok, which they do not want to free... that's why no need to talk about kashmir.

As you have indicated, Mr. Modi might be an incarnation of Winston Churchill very brave leader who will not yield to anybody but will do in his own will and way.

At first he has to bring trillions of dollars as foreign investment to India to build the dream cities-modernize the railway-cleaning the rivers and also connecting the rivers-million job creation etc and an over all GDP growth of 8-10% as predicted by Arun Jaitley while the GDP of China may hit with a terribly failing grade of less than 5% due to the stock crash and declined export.

Hopefully, he may bring several billions from his recent visit to UAE and the coming visit to the Silicone valley. The rich Indians in Silicone valley are greatly excited to welcome him and they will be respectful to him to invest their wealth in India. I must admit the fact that no other Prime Minister in India has ever travelled around the world, to some countries repeatedly to bring trillions of dollars in FDI in India.

jb, but it was during the congress rule and under the ablest leadership of Indira Gandhi, India cut Pakistan down to it’s size LITERALLY in 1971! And that too at a time biggies like US, UK, China, France etc were not only anti-India but had planned a strike against us. But they were no match for Mrs. Gandhi’s strategic planning which culminated in timely intervention by Russia and all the biggies had to back off!And what happened in the years that followed? We handed over captured terrorist on a silver platter yielding to blackmail by a bunch of hijackers at Kandahar. It's evident by this act of 'unmatched valor' that the then government understood the language of those so called terrorists very well!
