25,000 sign up for PM Modi's Silicon Valley reception

Washington, Aug 23 (PTI): More than 25,000 people have signed up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reception being organised by the Indian-American community in Silicon Valley on September 27.

The number is expected to increase after the registration process is opened to those not affiliated to the 500 community organisations which have joined hands for the reception.

Given that the capacity of SAP Centre in San Jose -– an indoor arena in the heart of Silicon Valley -– is just 18,000, the Indo-American Community of West Coast, created recently to organise the reception, would have to resort to lottery to determine who all would get free tickets to attend the event.

Khande Rao Kand, convener of the Indo-American Community of West Coast, today tweeted: "25K already registered for Silicon Valley event." "Individual registrations to open next week," Rao tweeted.

In September last year, Modi addressed about 20,000 Indian-Americans at the Madison Square Garden in New York, which was also attended by about 40 top American Congressmen and Senators.

California has the second-largest population of Indian- Americans after the Tristate area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Modi is scheduled to travel to San Francisco after addressing a high-level summit on sustainable development hosted by the UN on September 25, becoming the fourth Indian Premier to visit US' West Coast.

Modi's visit to San Francisco would also revive -— after a gap of four decades with the exception of the former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao in 1994 -— the post-independence tradition of Indian prime ministers visiting the US cities other than New York or Washington DC.

The Indo-American Community of West Coast today also announced a Selfie Video contest. "Record a selfie video of less than 1 minute on your idea of India - on what India means to you. The best video could win a USD 100 gift card and two guaranteed passes to the event. Selected videos will be featured on this page regularly," the organisation said on its Facebook page.

I want Modiji to visit the US as many times as possible to show & shame the fake Sikulars who wrote & signed letters to deny him visa. Sikulars should be shamed in this manner. They shout about all the country's problems now but they were silent from past 65 years & looted the country in every possible ways as there was no one to challenge them. Happy to see a poor man with good administrative experience running the country rather than a dynasty with "zero" knowledge.

Mr. Modi should realize, he's the Prime minister of India, travelling abroad for Commerce, Trade and enhancing bilateral relations is a good positive step, but when he's on foreign soil especially the US, Canada, Europe or Australia, he shouldn't give speeches against other political parties, for the reason, mostly Indians in these parts of the world are foreign citizens, and are least bothered to return (MAJORITY). They love when someone from their home country visits and gives them a homily. There isin't anything more to it. The swelling crowds are senseless and figures projected are meaningless as they don't reflect the sentiments of the true Indian who has voted for BJP or the ruling party. Modi should be visiting and exploring rural India, interact with farmers, enhance growth opportunities with Indian business leaders, use their technical know how and resources to solving power and irrigation issues (messed up by the previous UPA govt.)He should take a cue from Chandrababu Naidu, who despite doing good for the IT sector was voted out because he neglected rural India. Modi has a strong PR management (a close friend of mine is in the core PR group), all the small steps he takes are published and forwarded on what's app and Facebook , twitter etc...Most of the guys he will address, will not want to be called Indians or Indian Americans, they are more proud and arrogant than local US population. They are of no use to INDIA OR THE Indian ECONOMY. would APPRECIATE IF pepsi, google, Microsoft etc, would invest in India rather than mere promises.

Modi does not know anything else other than entertain the audience with his cheap oratorical theatrics, just like the monkey keeps repeating somersaults as if that is the biggest achievement. The madari, i.e. the party makes use of him because there is no better nautanki available.

    NDTV NEWS : August 23, 2015 09:06 IST

MUMBAI: With onion prices shooting to alarming levels across the country, nearly 700 kilograms of the vegetable have been stolen from a market in Mumbai.

The onions were stolen from a wholesale trader's shop from the Sion area of the city.

"On Saturday morning, when I reached the shop, I found 14 sacks of onions missing," said Anand Naik, the owner of the shop.

A First Information Report has been registered at the Wadala Truck Terminal police station.

"We have registered a complaint of onion theft. This is a very surprising case," said senior inspector Suhas Garud.

    A. S. Mathew, if the evaluation of the tours so far is any indicator of the so called 'success', this one also will be as futile as the rest. Claims have been made of billions of dollars of inflow from the countries that have been visited. But what has been our net gain from country's economic point of view? Forget in inflation which one can see only on paper. See the fate of our currency which is the true indicator of our economic condition and that has dropped from 57 to 66 a dollar since May, 2014 and that too when we have had oil prices to our advantage. Blame it on devaluation of Yuan? but that happened just a couple of weeks ago not on May 16th 2014. In all these post election big talks on so called achievements, not even once this issue has been addressed nor has been disclosed as to what mitigatory measures have been applied to prevent the further slide of Rupee. All in all, it's apparent that the leadership doesn't seem to have interest, control or knowledge of the actual situation which has been deteriorating incessantly.

Attending the political rally is one thing, and releasing their hard earned money based on the political promises of mammoth income may turn like a pyramid scheme for the enticed fans.

Out of the 536 billionaires in the U.S., 131 are living in California out of that a very high percentage is concentrated at the Silicone valley. Can Modiji force their hands to reach the pocket to release the money?

Varanasi was hit with the 2nd flood he has to visit that place to release some money to save the miserable people of his most beloved constituency, the holy place from where he was royally elected.

Hope the NRI campaigner of chaaiwaala who has returned for his Acchhe dhin in USA also many throw his income in India because his Acchhe Dhin are in USA.

So far no foreigners have lined in Q for Indian job Visas instead Chaaiwaala P.M., may request USA authorities to issue more Visas to Indian citizens for USA’s IT jobs.
