Three guerrillas killed in Kashmir


Srinagar, Aug 24 (Midday News): Three militants were killed and an army soldier injured in a night-long gunfight in Kashmir's Kupwara district, an official said on Sunday.

"At 8 p.m. yesterday (Saturday) a search party of 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police was fired upon by hiding militants in Khumhaira forests (Handwara) in the Kupwara district," a senior police official told IANS here. "The area was immediately cordoned off and reinforcements were rushed to ensure that the hiding militants could not escape. In the ensuing encounter, three militants were killed, while an army soldier has been injured," he added. "Search operation is still on in the area."
