Pakistan violates ceasefire in Jammu region


Jammu, Aug 24 (IANS): The Pakistani Army resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at the Indian positions overnight on the line of control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu region, a defence spokesman said.

"The Pakistani Army used 60 mm mortars and automatics to target our positions in Balakote sector of Poonch district yesterday (Sunday)," defence spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.

"The Pakistan shelling and firing started at 7 p.m. and continued till 7.10 p.m. Our troops responded effectively and appropriately," he added.

This is the first ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Army after the NSA-level talks between India and Pakistan were called off.
