Rs.2.5 crore car catches fire, driver runs away

New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS): A Lamborghini Gallardo costing Rs 2.5 crore went up in flames in the capital on Monday morning. Though the driver escaped without suffering any injury, he immediately fled the place, police said.

"The driver of the yellow-coloured car managed to escape without any injuries. The incident took place at around 9 a.m. in south Delhi's Badarpur area under a flyover," police said.

The Lamborghini Gallardo, a rear-engine supercar with a 5.5 litre V10 engine, belonged to a south Delhi businessman.

The fire was finally doused by a fire tender.

"The businessman had sent it for repairs at the service centre. The incident was reported in the morning when the driver (mechanic) drove it out of a service centre. Smoke started emanating from the engine suddenly while the driver was waiting for a right turn near the NTPC Chowk," a fire official told IANS.

Police have sent the car for a detailed analysis to ascertain the reason behind it bursting into flames.
