Interactive energy planning tool developed by NITI Aayog

New Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS): The NITI (NationalInstitution for Transforming India) Aayog, which has replaced the Planning Commission, on Tuesday said it has developed an interactive energy planning tool, which aims to explore a range of potential future energy scenarios for India up to 2047.

"It explores India's possible energy scenarios across energy supply sectors such as solar, wind, bio fuels, oil, gas, coal and nuclear and energy demand sectors such as transport, industry, agriculture, cooking and lighting appliances," the Aayog said in a statement here.

The tool - India Energy Security Scenarios (IESS) - will be launched here at industry chamber FICCI on Thursday by Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and Niti Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya, the statement said.

"The model allows users to interactively make energy choices, and explore a range of outcomes for the country - from carbon dioxide emissions and import dependence to land use," it added.
