Opposition demands FIR against Jharkhand minister

Ranchi, Aug 25 (IANS): The Jharkhand assembly on Tuesday witnessed uproarious scenes for the second successive day over the opposition demand for removal of Urban Development Minister C.P. Singh for getting a plot of land from the housing board.

Leader of Opposition Hemant Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) demanded an FIR against the minister.

"The land was allotted to the minister from his own ministry. How we can expect fair probe when C.P. Singh is minister of housing board? First, FIR should be lodged against him and a fair probe should be instituted," Soren told the assembly.

"If FIR was lodged against some people, then why was it not lodged against the minister?" he asked.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das assured he would look into the issue.

"My government will not compromise on corruption. I will review the housing board and appropriate steps will be taken over illegal allotment of land," said Das.

Soren also objected to C.P. Singh's statement threatening a probe against opposition members.

"Is the government threatening the opposition members not to raise the issue of corruption by ruling party members?" he asked.
