OROP: Veterans trying to meet central ministers


New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS): Representatives of ex-servicemen on Tuesday said they were trying to meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to discuss the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue.

The veterans met Army chief Gen. Dalbir Singh on Tuesday to discuss the issue.

"We met the army chief because he is one of us... we are requesting him to facilitate the meetings (with ministers)," Indian Ex-Servicemen Front chairman Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh (retd) told IANS.

Earlier, there were reports of the veterans meeting Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, but Maj. Gen. Singh said they have not yet been able to meet them. "We are trying to meet them," he added.

On an indefinite hunger strike, two of the veterans -- Col. Pushpender Singh (retd) and Havildar Ashok Chauhan (retd) -- are is hospital, while another, Havildar Major Singh (retd) refused to leave the protest venue despite his deteriorating health.
