Guerrilla killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 26 (IANS): Security forces on Wednesday shot dead a guerrilla in Jammu and Kashmir's border town of Uri, an official said.

The killing took place in a gun battle that began on Tuesday evening in Lassipora area near the Line of Control (LoC), defence ministry spokesman Lt. Colonel N.N. Joshi told IANS.

The army and the Special Operations Group of the police had surrounded the forested area after receiving information that some militants were hiding there.

The rebels fired at the troops, who retaliated, killing the militant.
