New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS): A court in Delhi has sentenced a man to life in jail for raping his own minor daughter, saying the convict gave his child "such a betrayal of faith of relationship that would really be difficult for her to forget".

"Children are entitled to expect the best from their parents, in terms of care and parental love, that they can possibly receive. But the convict gave his daughter such a betrayal of faith of relationship that would really be difficult for her to forget," Additional Sessions Judge Gautam Manan said in his order delivered on Tuesday, which was made available to the media on Wednesday.

The court noted that the convict, despite being the father of the victim, not only sexually assaulted her but also allowed another boy to sexually abuse his daughter.

The court awarded life term to the father and 12 years rigorous jail term to his associate, and imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 on both of them.

It also directed the district legal service authority to give the girl Rs.1 lakh as restorative and compensatory justice to her.

According to the prosecution, the nine-year-old victim's mother filed a complaint against her husband and his associate alleging that on May 17, 2012 they made the girl intoxicated and took her to a park where they raped her.

The girl came home crying and narrated the incident to her mother, after which a police complaint was filed and the duo was arrested.

The court relied on the deposition of the victim and her aunt as her mother died during the court proceedings.
