After violence, Omar questions Gujarat model

New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS): Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday questioned the "Gujarat model" of development, after violence over reservations sparked violence in the state.

"If the Gujarat model of inclusive development is such a success, why have so many protesters demanding a share of that progress died?" he asked in a tweet.

At least five people were killed and over 100 injured as a state-wide shutdown called on Wednesday in support of OBC status and job reservations for the Patel community turned violent.
