A whale shark has been spotted in Dubai Marina waters.

Dubai, Aug 28 (Emirates 247): Emirates Diving UAE has tweeted the picture of the shark swimming in the Marina water earlier today, claiming that it’s not the first but third sighting of the whale shark.

“Third #whaleshark spotted in the Marina. Let them be though as they do find their way out on their own,(sic)” tweets Emirates Diving.

The whale shark is a slow-moving filter feeding shark and the largest known extant fish species.

The whale shark is found in open waters of the tropical oceans and is rarely found in water below 22 centigrade. They feed mainly on plankton and are generally considered harmless to humans, according to Wikipedia.

In the region, seasonal feeding aggregations occur at several coastal sites such as Dimaniyat Islands in the Gulf Oman, Al Hallaniyat Islands in the Arabian Sea and rarely in Aqaba in Jordan.

In February 2012, a large whale shark was found floating 150km off the coast of Karachi, Pakistan.
