Mangalore, Jun 22: The city will soon be in the league of its bigger counterparts, especially Bangalore, with a plan to construct a 31-km ring road at the cost of Rs 500 crore.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s officer here on Wednesday June 20, attended by MCC officials, members of Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the representatives of Karnataka Housing Board (KHB).

The project will be a joint venture of MCC, MUDA and KHB and work on it is expected to begin in about three months.

The project will be executed in five phases and a survey of an area of 12 km has already been conducted using Global Positioning System (GPS) under the first phase at a cost of Rs 12 lac. The phase two will be construction of the road from Ullal bridge to Kuloor bridge.

The funding for the project will be taken care of by the centre and the state governments.

The third phase will be from Kuloor bridge to Maravoor bridge while the fourth phase will stretch from Malavoor to Gurpur bridge culminating at Kannur on NH 48 under the fifth phase.

Additional capital for the project will be obtained from cess to be imposed on lands benefited by the project.
