Mizoram seeks central aid to develop tourism sector


New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS): Mizoram Tourism Minister John Rotluangliana on Friday sought central assistance for the development of the state's tourism sector.

He made this appeal during a meeting with union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma here, according to an official statement.

Sharma told Rotluangliana that Mizoram has been included in the mega project of the North East Circuit under the new Swadesh Darshan tourism scheme.

Mizoram has submitted proposals for two tourism projects: integrated development of eco-tourism, adventure sports and wellness at Serlui B Lake surroundings and integrated development of eco-tourism at Thanzawal under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.

Rotluangliana also requested Sharma to release some outstanding funds for the projects started under the Project/Infrastructure Development for Destination and Circuits scheme.

Sharma assured the Mizoram minister that the demands of the state government would be examined and all possible assistance would be extended.
