Kasargod, Aug 28: A CPM worker was hacked to death by bike-borne assailants at Kayakunnu near Kanhangad on Friday August 28 evening.
The deceased has been identified as C Narayana (42), a resident of Kodobelur. His brother Arvind who was also stabbed in the incident has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
Condemning the murder, CPM has called for a district-wide bandh on Saturday August 29.
It is said that Narayana and Arvind were sitting near an auditorium when three persons came in a bike and brutally attacked Narayana. Arvind who rushed to his brother's rescue was also attacked.
Both were rushed to Kanhangad hospital but Narayana could not be saved. Arvind who sustained grievous injuries was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
The body was taken to the mortuary at Periyaram hospital.
Sources said that the police have already found clues about the identities of two persons involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, the CPM alleged that BJP workers were behind the attack. In protest against the attack, the CPM has called for a district-wide bandh from 6 am to 6 pm on Saturday.
The police have tightened security in the district to prevent any further incident.
Sometime back, BJP and CPM workers in the same area were involved in a clash relating to destroying of flags. This incident may have been a retaliation, it is suspected.
