Telangana CM congratulates Sania for receiving Khel Ratna

Hyderabad, Aug 29 (IANS): Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday congratulated tennis icon Sania Mirza for receiving Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.

Mirza, who won the women's doubles title at Wimbledon, received the top honour from President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.

The chief minister, in a statement, expressed the hope that in future she would get many more such awards nationally and internationally.

Currently ranked world number one in doubles, Mirza is also the brand ambassador of Telangana.

The other sportspersons from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who received the awards include K. Srikanth (badminton), Anoop Kumar (skating), S. P. Mishra (tennis) and K. Saibaba (best sports NGO).
