Kundapur, Aug 30: In a strange case, a young girl went missing mysteriously after her neighbour, a married man, allegedly assaulted her and even tore her clothes. She returned home a day later, and surprisingly, denied any sort of assault by the neighbour. The incident occured on Friday August 28 at Mudoor Basriberu in Jadkal gram panchayat limits.
Anil Basriberu (40), who hails from Kerala and works as a driver in a lodge, allegedly assaulted the girl, identified as Vasanthi Naik (25).
It is said that Vasanthi was at home doing household chores when Anil called her on phone and asked her to come to a spot behind the house. There were arguments between Anil and the girl on some issue. The argument turned sour and took to full-fledged fight. Anil then assaulted her, said the elder sister of the girl. Her clothes were torn during the fight.
Meanwhile, the mother of the girl also came there and picked a fight with Anil. During the fight, he also allegedly threatened her family. When the family members told her to come inside the house, she told them that she would come home later. However, she did not come home and nobody knew the whereabouts of the girl.
As the girl did not return home even till night, the family members filed a complaint with Kollur police with the help of locals. When she did not come back even on Saturday August 29, the worried family members and the locals started to search for her in the nearby forest.
Gram panchayat members and president who were informed about the incident also joined the search party but the girl was not traceable. Circle inspector Sudarshan with his team also searched for her.
Just as the family members were losing hopes of her returne, the girl walked back home at about 3.30 pm accompanied by Anil's wife. The police then questioned her and were suprised to hear from her that Anil had not even touched her and that there was no fight.
The confused villagers were left clueless. It is said that Anil had been involved in assault cases in the past too. More than five cases have been filed against him in Kollur police station. The villagers demanded that Anil be punished for this acts.
Further, the villagers claimed that the girl was lying due to threats from Anil and said that truth would be known only by subjecting her to medical tests.
Her family members and villagers have threatened of protests if proper action is not taken by the police.
The police took the girl to the police station and said that legal action would be taken based on her statement.
