Udupi: Minister Sorake offers 'samudra pooja' at Malpe sea

Udupi, Aug 30: A traditional ritual 'samudra pooja' was offered by district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake at Malpe seashore here Saturday, August 29.




The pooja was first offered at Vadambandeshwar temple. Then the minister offered milk to the ocean praying for the well being of fisherfolk.This practice is usually held during the auspecious shravana month (full moon day).

Fishermen leader T Hiriyanna Kediyur said during the occassion "Fishermen believe that ocean king protects their life from natural disasters. They pray for growth of sea wealth throughout year."

Sorake peaking to media persons about loss of BBMP poll said that there is a lot of time for the Congress and JD(S) party alliance. "This is not a new thing for the state government as both parties are secular. Finally the dicision is left to Devegowda."


Regarding UPCL power planthe said " The region is partially polluted by black dust (coal powder) and salt water. Hence, State energy minister D K Shivkumar has to take up firm decision by considering all the problems."

Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj was also present during the occasion.
