Modi defeated over land bill: Nitish Kumar


Patna, Aug 30 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowed down to public pressure by stepping back on the land acquisition ordinance, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said here on Sunday.

"Modi had to go back on the land acquisition ordinance. He had to step back. This is the biggest victory for people," the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader said while addressing the Swabhiman rally organised by the JD-U, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress alliance at the Gandhi Maidan here.

The rally was attended by thousands of people.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad and RJD chief Lalu Prasad were also present at the rally.

Modi, during his radio address 'Mann ki Baat' on Sunday, said his government would not re-promulgate the land acquisition ordinance, which lapses on Monday.
