Kolkata, Sep 1 (IANS): Vehicle sales during August for carmaker Tata Motors remained flat at 40,680 units as against 40,883 vehicles sold in the same month last year even though it recorded increase in unit sales in certain business segments.

In August this year, the company's total passenger vehicles segment recorded a nominal two percent increase in its unit sales at 11,194 as compared to 10,975 units in the same month last year. Utility vehicle sales, however, declined by 50 percent at 1,380 units in August 2015.

In commercial vehicles, the medium-heavy segment continued to grow by 31 percent at 12,017 units over August 2014. Like the recent past months, its light and small commercial vehicle sales, however, continued to reflect industry decline and were pegged at 12,267 units - a decline of 25 percent over August 2014.

Overall commercial vehicles sales for Tata Motors in the domestic market declined by four percent at 24,284 units in the review-month over August 2014.

The company's sales from exports, nevertheless, increased by 16 percent at 5,202 vehicles in the month under review as against 4,480 units in August 2014.
