Free family medical insurance for Ola drivers

Bengaluru, Sep 2 (IANS): Leading mobile application provider for personal transportation Ola on Tuesday announced free medical insurance to family members of drivers operating on its platform.

"We have tied up with Reliance General Insurance Co Ltd to provide our drivers a medical cover of an assured Rs.2 lakh for them and their family, including expenses on hospital and treatment," the aggregator said in a statement here.

As part of the deal, drivers will also get a free health check-up every quarter to ensure they take care of their mental and physical fitness.

"We have started enrolling drivers for the health insurance scheme and covered about 1,000 drivers in Hyderabad and Mumbai. The scheme is being rolled out in other metros and cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Pune from this week onwards," Ola chief operating officer Pranay Jivrajka said in the statement.

Founded in January 2011 by IIT Bombay alumni Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati, Ola (formerly Olacabs) boasts of having a whopping 250,000 drivers on its digital platform for personal transportation in over 100 cities across the country.

Ola on March 2 this year acquired TaxiForSure, India's second largest cab aggregator, for $200 million (Rs.1,238 crore) in a cash and equity deal.
