Srinagar, Sep 2 (IANS): A soldier was killed on Wednesday as security forces battled insurgents holed up in a village in Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The trooper from Rashtriya Rifles died in a gun battle in Ladoora (Rafiabad) village, a police officer told IANS.
Security forces had surrounded a house early in the morning after learning that militants were hiding there. This triggered a fierce battle between the two sides.
"Firing is still going on," the officer said.
