Puttur, Sep 3: In an operation undertaken by Uppinangady station house officer, Timmappa Naik, with the help of his colleagues on Wednesday September 2 on the highway junction at Nekkilady village in the taluk, two persons were arrested. 12 she-buffaloes and a bullock that were being illegally taken in a mini truck to Kasargod from Hassan were rescued.
The arrested persons happen to be Imran from Bombu Bazaar in Hassan and Azeem, who hails from Halebeedu in Hassan district. Their accomplice, Nayaz from Hassan, escaped during the operation.
The accused stated that they had bought these cattle from Abdul Rahiman. But they did not possess any documents in support of their claim. During the questioning, the accused reportedly admitted that the cattle were being taken to a slaughterhouse at Kasargod.
The accused were produced in the court here thereafter.
