Pakistan violates Kashmir ceasefire


Jammu, Sep 3 (IANS): The Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, triggering gun battles, officials said on Thursday.

Defence ministry spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta told IANS that the Pakistanis used small arms and automatics "to target our positions in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district" on Tuesday night.

"The Pakistani firing started at 8 p.m. and continued till 10.30 p.m. Our troops responded effectively and appropriately."

The officer said no casualty or damage was reported on the Indian side.
