Boat carrying 100 people capsizes off Malaysia


Kuala Lumpur, Sep 3 (IANS): A boat carrying about 100 people capsized on Thursday off the western coast of Malaysia in the Malacca Straits.

According to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m., which was witnessed by a fisherman near the area, Xinhua news agency reported.

The agency said that a rescue team was mobilised to the location, and it is still unknown whether there are any casualties.

The passengers are believed to be illegal immigrants, it added.
