Bantwal, Sep 3: The general session of the local municipality, by passing an unanimous resolution, has opposed execution of Yettinahole project. The session was held here on Wednesday September 2.
The session was presided over by its president, Vasanti Chandappa. Councillor, Devadas Shetty, who raised the topic, expressed the apprehension that the town may suffer from shortage of drinking water, although River Netravati flows by its side, because of Yettinahole Project. "The district in-charge minister has already warned about the prospects of facing shortage of drinking water. Therefore, any drinking water project that gets implemented will affect availability of drinking water to us. Therefore, we should sink political differences and adopt resolution opposing Yettinahole project," he said. As all the councillors supported this opinion, an unanimous resolution against Yettinahole was adopted by the session.
District in-charge minister, Ramanath Rai, suggested to complete pending projects like Rs 52 crore drinking water project and underground drainage project that has been gathering dust, as early as possible, towards addressing issues bothering the town.
Official of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Shobha, brought several issues that have become impediment in the execution of the above two projects to the notice of the minister. The minister said that it would be wise not to dig up the past blunders, and asked chief officer of the municipality to hold discussions with the deputy commissioner towards completing works at the earliest.
Councillor, Govind Prabhu, raised the topic of a building coming up in front of municipal office, by throwing to winds rules governing such structures, and questioned the member secretary of Bantwal Urban Planning Authority about the permission given to such a building. He alleged that the files he had rejected when he was the chairman of BUDA are now being reopened and sanctioned. The official said he would review the illegal buildings.
The issue of garbage clearance also was raised at the meeting and consumed some time. Councillor, Devadas Shetty, warned that if garbage clearance is not properly done in ward 4 within eight days, the garbage would be collected and dumped in front of the municipal office.
Vice president, Yasmin, councillors, Jagadish Kunder, Monish Ali, Iqbal Goodinabali, Praveen B, Gangadhar etc took part in discussions. In-charge chief officer, Tejomurty, conducted the proceedings.
